Politicus Ex Machina

In a TV interview, a stereotypical politician faces the interviewer’s generally formulated questions and uses highly stylised rhetoric in his rambling answers as a substitute for precision in content. The interviewer speaks by means of real statements by politicians who have been selected independently of their political orientation. The theme is the tension between rhetoric and speech content. The montage technique combines the visual and verbal levels in the comic.
By means of augmented reality, the comic, which is designed analogously as a collage, is supplemented by another level of content and design: now the viewer of the TV interview gives his or her opinion on what he or she has seen in a frame-by-frame hand-drawn sequence.
The complete work was exhibited as part of the Comic Collage Cut exhibition at the Nextcomic Festival 2020 at the Ars Electronica Center in Linz.
